Wow! What is Causing That Halitosis?

When you have halitosis it isn’t pleasant for anyone.  So, what are the causes of halitosis?  There are many reasons people have halitosis.  When you have halitosis it isn’t pleasant for anyone.  Many people have a problem with chronic halitosis and in this article we will look at the causes of halitosis.

As you may have discovered if you have halitosis, people may sometimes react in a rather negative way when you open your mouth.  Why do some people have a problem with bad breath while others never do?  Is it because those with halitosis are less clean?  No, this may be a common belief but it is not true.  Many people who have bad breath brush their teeth as often or even more often than those who do not have bad breath.

Halitosis is caused by bacteria that live on the tongue and in the throat. These bacteria are normal and help with our digestion because they break down the protein in the foods we eat. The proteins contain amino acids that have high sulfur content.  Bad breath occurs when the bacteria mixes with the sulfur.

On top of that there are other conditions that add to the problem.  You may have dry mouth or suffer from post nasal drip.  If you have a sinus condition or eat foods high in protein, your halitosis may be even worse.

There are many home remedies that may help fight halitosis.  If none of these things work you may want to talk to your pharmacist or dentist.  There are many causes of halitosis but there are also many things you can do to rid yourself of the unwanted problem.
