You’ve heard the word gingivitis all over on mouthwash covers, toothpaste ads, television commercials. Do we actually know what the gingivitis disease actually is though? If you really want to get rid of it, the first place to start is having the knowledge and meaning behind the terminology.
Gingivitis is considered a Periodontal Disease, which basically means that the tissues supporting the teeth become inflamed, and simply infected. This is where the role of plaque comes in. The building up of plaque overtime leads to Gingivitis, which is why it is extremely important to make sure that you have a toothbrush that will get all of the plaque off and help fight the gingivitis disease. Also make sure that you brush your teeth for about 5 minutes to make sure that you have removed all possible plaque in your mouth.
The gingivitis disease, well, is a disease! So you might want to go talk to your dentist about any antibiotics that will treat and cure it. If you want to prevent the disease there are several brands of mouthwashes on the market such as Listerine that will help get rid of plaque and gingivitis. Another excellent source, which many of us know about but don’t use, is dental floss. If you have a very severe case, make sure to contact your dentist as soon as possible so that he can set you up with the appropriate antibiotics.
Symptoms of Gingivitis
As you all know, gingivitis is a disease caused by plaque and build up in your mouth. This article is about the gingivitis symptoms as well as ways to prevent it from occurring. If you experience inflamed gums such as feeling tender or swollen that is one gingivitis symptom. The other symptoms can range from deep red/purple gums to bleeding when you brush your teeth. If you see any of these symptoms contact your dentist as soon as you can and he will treat you with some antibiotics. I personally have experienced gum disease before, and it will not get better or treated unless you consult your doctor or severely upgrade your dental hygiene.
Gingivitis, like any other oral disease is created by bacteria. If you do not perform accurate and usual dental hygiene, your chances of developing gingivitis symptoms will be greater. Gingivitis symptoms will very likely form if you forget to brush your teeth frequently. If you brush your teeth and use other oral hygienic methods you will be perfectly fine and worry free of gingivitis.
Gingivitis lives off of plaque and left over debris of food, so also make sure that you floss as well. If you have already developed gingivitis symptoms seek your dentist as soon as you can and he will treat you will the appropriate oral medications. I cannot stress enough that your only need to prevent this from happening, is to brush-your-teeth.
