Wow! What is Causing That Halitosis?

When you have halitosis it isn’t pleasant for anyone. So, what are the causes of halitosis? There are many reasons people have halitosis. When you have halitosis it isn’t pleasant for anyone. Many people have a problem with chronic halitosis and in this article we will look at the causes of halitosis.

As you may have discovered if you have halitosis, people may sometimes react in a rather negative way when you open your mouth. Why do some people have a problem with bad breath while others never do? Is it because those with halitosis are less clean? No, this may be a common belief but it is not true. Many people who have bad breath brush their teeth as often or even more often than those who do not have bad breath.

Halitosis is caused by bacteria that live on the tongue and in the throat. These bacteria are normal and help with our digestion because they break down the protein in the foods we eat. The proteins contain amino acids that have high sulfur content. Bad breath occurs when the bacteria mixes with the sulfur.

On top of that there are other conditions that add to the problem. You may have dry mouth or suffer from post nasal drip. If you have a sinus condition or eat foods high in protein, your halitosis may be even worse.

There are many home remedies that may help fight halitosis. If none of these things work you may want to talk to your pharmacist or dentist. There are many causes of halitosis but there are also many things you can do to rid yourself of the unwanted problem.

Do you suffer from a dry mouth? This can be a discomforting condition that may also cause bad breath. Let’s find out some of the causes of dry mouth.

The actual dental term for dry mouth is “Xerostomia” and it means dryness of the mouth because the glands that produce saliva are not working as well as they should. If you feel that you have a dry mouth all the time there are several possible reasons for this.

You may have a systemic disease that is causing the problem. Causes of dry mouth may be because of a rheumatoid condition, a dysfunctional immune system, a hormonal disorder or a neurological problem.

If your salivary glands have been removed you may suffer from a dry mouth. Sometimes decreased chewing ability will result in dry mouth. Radiation therapy can also be a cause of dry mouth problems.

There are over 400 drugs that cause dry mouth as a side effect. Some of the most common drugs include; decongestants, diuretics, antihypertensives, antidepressants, and antihistamines.

When you experience dry mouth there are several common symptoms. You may have a burning sensation on your tongue, experience difficulty eating, have a problem with your speech, are often thirsty, have trouble wearing your dentures, have impaired taste, or have dry, cracked lips.

There are things you can do to help combat dry mouth. Always have water available and drink often taking sips. Chew sugarless gum and avoid tobacco, alcohol and foods high in sugar. You can purchase a saliva substitute that sometimes helps and you should always use fluoride.

When you know the causes of dry mouth, you can take measures to improve the problem.

If you are suffering from bad breath and have tried the normal treatments and nothing has helped you may have bad breath out of your nose.

Bad breath out of your nose is caused by sinus problems, allergies, the common cold and other kinds of congestion. Many medications you use for these problems may cause your mouth to be dry which only adds to the bad breath situation.

When you put the dry mouth together with the mucus that has formed in your nasal passages, you have bad breath out of the nose.

If you aren’t feeling well, bad breath may be the least of your concerns. When you start to feel better and return to your normal, daily routine it could become an issue. You may not notice your breath but those around you will and they will be less than delighted.

There are some things you can try at home that will help with the bad breath and should even make you feel better;

Drink at least eight glasses of water a day. This will keep your mouth from becoming so dry. If you add a lemon or lime to the water it will taste better and also help to cleanse your system.

Another great way to rid yourself of that nasty bad breath out of your nose is to make a vaporizer treatment. Just heat a pot of water with enough vinegar so you can smell it. Turn off the heat when the water boils and lean over the pot so you can inhale the steam.

Whatever you do, don’t ignore the problem because it will not disappear by itself. You can take care of bad breath out of your nose by following the advice in this article.

Bad breath in your throat, what is the source? If you are having problems with bad breath, could the problem be in your throat?

Yes, and there is something you can do about it.

Bad breath in your throat happens when sulfur-producing bacteria and debris accumulate and end up stuck in your tonsils. This is a nasty situation because the debris which can also include post nasal drip gets putrefied in the back of your throat. Then it collects in the small pockets on the surface of your tonsils. How could this not cause bad breath?

So the debris mixes with the sulfur compounds produced by bacteria that live under your tongue. You are now dealing with tonsil stones. This produces bad breath as well as taste disorders.

If you have had your tonsils removed you will almost never suffer from these tonsil stones. You can still have a problem with bad breath because the bacterium that makes the sulfur is still likely to be living under your tongue.

If you suspect your bad breath is a direct cause of a throat problem you may want to visit with your doctor or dentist. Your health professional will have suggestions to help you eliminate the throat and bad breath problems.

You could also visit with your pharmacist. A pharmacist will often have knowledge of these problems and will be able to assist you in making good decisions with over-the-counter medications.

If your bad breath is caused by a throat problem there are ways to take care of the situation. Your breath will soon return to normal when you discover the source of the problem.

It’s one thing if an adult has bad breath. Usually peers will be willing to overlook this situation. Bad breath in children can be quite a problem because their peers may not be as kind. Bad breath in children can lead to teasing and humiliation.

If your child has a problem with bad breath there are many things you can do to help. Children and bad breath does not need to become a source of embarrassment for your family.

First of all find out what the source of the problem is. Sometimes bad breath can be because of certain foods the child is eating. Cheese, onions, and garlic often cause bad breath. Drinking pop can also be an offender.

If you want to keep bad breath in children to a minimum, be sure they brush and floss regularly each day. It may be a bit of a struggle to get these tasks accomplished but it will be worth it. Try a shopping trip to pick out a favorite toothbrush and toothpaste. Make brushing fun and something to look forward to. Brush with your child and enjoy the time together.

When a child has dry mouth or post nasal drip from a cold or allergies, they can experience bad breath. If your child snores or breathes through his mouth, dry mouth can occur. This sometimes leads to bad breath.

Regular check-ups at the dentist will help with bad breath problems. When your child has clean teeth and dental problems taken care of on a regular basis, bad breath may not be so much of an issue.

Bad breath in children is a situation that can be quite manageable.
