Are there disadvantages to tooth whitening? There can be disadvantages to tooth whitening and we will explore some of them.
You can have your teeth whitened at the dental office. The dentist can isolate the teeth from the gums and apply a really strong paste that contains peroxide. This takes about half an hour and you may require several visits to reach the whiteness you want. This is a rather expensive procedure.
If you want the help of your dentist but prefer to do the treatments at home you can have trays made for your teeth. You put a whitening solution in the trays and then have to wear them everyday for 45 minutes to two hours. This can be less than convenient. Another disadvantage to this procedure is the cost. It will cost at least $350.00 just for the trays.
If you choose to try some of the over-the-counter tooth whitening products you may encounter other disadvantages. You can purchase the whitening strips. These can be rather unwieldy to apply and if you do not place them just right you may miss an area. That area will not be as whitened as the rest of your teeth.
You can also buy toothpaste that will whiten your teeth. This is an inexpensive way to go but it can take a long time to work.
There are whitening gels available for tooth whitening. You need to apply this gel twice a day and leave it on your teeth for only 30 seconds. Again, if you are not careful you may miss a spot or two leaving you with undesirable results.
